“Slavery By Another Name


The Center for African American Studies at Princeton University sponsors two events on Wednesday, March 7. At 4:30 p.m. Fred Moten, of Duke University, will discuss “The Touring Machine: Flesh Thought Inside Out.” investigating the theory of blackness and the theory of mind by using the works of John Coltrane and others. This lecture will be in room 10 of East Pyne. 


The documentary based on the book  “Slavery by Another Name — the Re-Enslsavement of Black People in America from the Civil War to the World War II — will be shown on  Wednesday, March 7, at 7:30 PM at Princeton University’s McCormick Hall.  This film was an official selection of 2012 Sundance Film Festival. 


The book written by Douglas Blackmon.documents how — under laws specifically meant for this purpose — African Americans were systematically arrested, charged with outrageous fines, and charged for the costs of their own arrests. Blackmon will sign copies of his book, sold onsite, and will discuss it with screenwriter Sheila Curran Bernard.
