MedalFreeJust posthumously awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom: James Chaney, Andrew Goodman, and Michael Schwerner, who were killed as they participated in the 1964 Freedom Summer drive to register black voters in Mississippi.  “Their deaths shocked the nation and their efforts helped to inspire many of the landmark civil rights advancements that followed.”

The exhibit “Freedom Summer” launches at the John Witherspoon School with a talk by Bob Moses, a civil rights activist who worked with Bayard Rustin, on Sunday, November 16, at 2 p.m. Try to attend — it will be a momentous occasion; a reception follows. A panel discussion and a free film screening are also scheduled.
