It’s been 77 years since civil rights activist and poet Langston Hughes wrote his chilling poem “Kids Who Die,” which illuminates the horrors of lynchings during the Jim Crow era. Now, as we approach the one-year anniversary of Michael Brown’s death and the Ferguson uprising that sparked a movement, take a few minutes to witness how Hughes’ words still ring true today.

Please read ALL of the Langston Hughes poem. It is universalist, multi-racial and multii-ethnic. It assaults capitalism and tyrannies, among the other causes of the deaths of young people. The photograph in/on the NIOT post does not fully represent the expansiveness of Hughes’ vision.

When will Democrsts finally take responsibility for “Jim Crow” and their ongoing deceit of black America.
What does that have to do with the Langston Hughes poem? White Democrats and Republicans enacted and maintained formal racial segregation as well as informal structures that limited opportunities for blacks in America. Blaming 19th century Democrats doesn’t help effect change.
