Dr. Chu Kim-Prieto,  assistant professor of psychology at The College of New Jersey, tested to see if simply observing and reading about Native American sports symbols would increase respondents’ prejudices about Asian-Americans, an unrelated racial group at TCNJ and at her alma mater—the University of Illinois, former home of the NCAA-banned mascot  Chief Illiniwek. The results indicated that viewing the symbol seems to have prompted the students to react negatively toward another race and suggest something deep about racial consciousness.
