In 1912, white mobs set fire to black churches and black-owned businesses. Eventually the entire black population of Forsyth County was driven out.  These events are described in Blood at the Root by Patrick Phillips, who is interviewed by Terry Gross on Fresh Air.  The author will also be appearing at the Princeton Public Library on Tuesday, December 13, 2016 at 7 pm.
