Cultural competency is taken for granted, especially among teachers, Dr. Ruha would reemphasize the benefit of racial literacy as a practice to dismantle previous acts of offensiveness to gain a greater understanding of why we think the way we think. Law professor Nancy Schultz’s intention merely reinforced the underlining message that she needed to connect with her implicit bias surrounding Black men in white coats before trying to help her students. Nancy missed the mark.
