Public response to the George Floyd murder brings the death of Latasha Harlins to mind for artist Laura Park. Latasha was shot and killed by shopkeeper Soon Ja Du, who assumed the 15-year-old was stealing a bottle of orange juice. At Du’s sentencing, the judge suspended the 10-year sentence recommended by the jury, giving her instead 400 hours of community service and a fine of $500.
