More than 100 people attended the July 23rd morning meeting of the Princeton Board of Education Policy Committee about a possible name change for John Witherspoon Middle School, with students, teachers, and community members voicing their opinions and concerns. Shirley Satterfield, Princeton native, historian of the town’s African American community, and Not in Our Town Princeton board member provided historical information and insight, particularly about Elizabeth “Betsey” Stockton, whose name she proposed to substitute for John Witherspoon’s.
