What makes a community? What makes a community welcoming? And what makes it resilient? There must be space for joy.
For the last four years the Department of Human Services and the library have joined with local community members and organizations to celebrate Welcoming Week, an initiative of Welcoming America. This year some of the virtual activities focus on food and reflection from the many, many ways that we can connect with each other.
The first is a recipe sharing project.… you can already see the results of the first entries on engageprinceton.org/recipes/. In the form we ask people to share a recipe -one that they might prepare to make someone feel welcome in their home or in the neighborhood. We also invite them to share a story about what makes the recipe special to them.
The second initiative is an invitation to reflect about the ways that people are finding connection and building community in this time. We are also inviting them to share what they wish will come out of 2020.
If people would prefer to simply email me, they are more than welcome to do so kdorman@princetonlibrary.org
