Race Awareness Trainings, Summer, 2021

Whatever your summer plans, find time to raise your awareness of the impact of race on your life and our society.  A number of online trainings are available.

Organization: Not in Our Town Princeton
Title: Examining Racism: Looking Inward First.
Description: An interactive workshop designed to give individuals a start on the road to greater racial awareness and action.
Dates and times: Flexible
Time commitment: Two 1 ½ hour sessions (usually a week apart)
Cost: Free of charge

Organization: White Awake
Title: Radical Anti-Bias Education: Cultivating True Comrades in Struggle
Description: An online training designed to support people socially classified as “white” in unlearning race and class biases within the context of a liberatory struggle for an equitable and life-sustaining society.
Dates and times: July 11, July 18,and Aug 1 4-6:30 pm ET
Time commitment: Three 2 ½ hour sessions
Cost: Sliding scale $60 – $240 fee for training. No one turned away for lack of funds

Organization: Center for the Study of White American Culture
Title: What White People Can Do About Racism, Part 1
Description: An  interactive online workshop that looks at how white people can work for racial justice by understanding racial structure, building connections and cross-racial alliances, finding direction to become an effective change agent, and building a personal support network.
Dates and times: July 14, 21 & 28 7-9pm ET

Organization: Rutgers University, Summer School of Addiction Studies
Title: Exploring Racial Trauma from Antiracist Lens
Description: Dr. Nathalie Edmond teaches this course that will explore the legacy of white supremacy.  Participants will be guided in developing an anti-racism lens in clinical and personal life, and learn about concepts such as white privilege, implicit bias and more subtle forms of racism, conceptualizing racism and anti-blackness culture as a form of racial trauma.

Title: Transforming White Organizational Culture
Description: This workshop will help participants identify characteristics of white organizational culture, understand how it operates in their organizations, examine remedies to offset its negative impact, and transform your organization to be truly diverse, equitable and inclusive (DEI).

Organization: Beyond Diversity
Title: Virtual, Advanced Summer Institute on Race
Description: Participants explore race and will have the opportunity to discuss the racial events that arose recently, and the failure of the society to address long-standing structural racism.
