One year after the first Princeton High School Racial Literacy class was taught, Dr. Joy Barnes-Johnson, Ms. Patty Manhart, and their students will present “Racial Literacy: Tell Me Who You Are”
As Dr. B-J wrote, “The goal of racial literacy is not a singular destination, instead it is an open acknowledgement that literacy is multi-faceted and requires a life-long commitment to a growth mindset. In the case of racial literacy, it is that which allows us to take steps toward courageous conversations with those closest to us, as a means to transfer light to those we love. Monday’s conversations will provide insight into the journeys of several student pioneers who embraced the challenge. Students will share insights about the asymmetry of racial domination and their experiences in Princeton High School’s racial literacy class, now completing a full year of teaching and learning.” Guest panelists Winona Guo & Priya Vulchi of Project Choose will also be in attendance.
Join us on Monday, June 3rd at 7pm in the Princeton Public Library’s Community Room, for the latest in our on-going series, “Continuing Conversations on Race and White Privilege.” We invite all those who are interested to come learn from these inspiring young leaders. Together we can work to dismantle racism and build an inclusive community for all. Bring a friend!
