Michael Eric Dyson in the New York Times (“Love and Terror in the Black Church,” Sunday, June 21, 2015) and NPR’s Rachel Martin talking to Rev. Charles Watkins in Charleston (“Churches Try To Stay Safe — And Keep Their Open-Door Policies“) review the history of violence against African American churches and the reasons they remain open and tolerant.
