If you are curious about this relatively new holiday that was signed into law by President Joe Biden in 2021, then you would want to check out this event. The Mercer County Library System is offering a virtual program called “What We Commemorate on Juneteenth – A Discussion on June 13 at 6:30 p.m. Dr. Richard Bell, Professor of History at the University of Maryland, discusses the struggles of enslaved African Americans during the Civil War and the events leading up to their emancipation on June 19, 1865.
