This workshop describes the practical implementation of publicly declaring racism as a health crisis and the steps to operationalize racial equity into everyday practice in the Health Department (HD) of a large US city.
These approaches are discussed within the framework of a social-ecological model, which recognizes the multi-faceted, overlapping, and interactive factors that contribute to and maintain racial inequities, as well as anti-racism and community-building strategies that can be employed across multiple levels to eliminate racism and achieve a more just society.
Presenter Dr. Fran Kaplan, EdD, of Nurturing Diversity Partners (NDP) has served as the principal trainer and consultant on the project for 2 years.
