Community Reading of Dr. King’s Letter from a Birmingham Jail
EMBRACING RACE – The Conversation and Lawnside Historical Society are proud to co-host an online community reading of “Letter from Birmingham Jail” by the Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., on Thursday, Jan. 8 at 7 p.m. We are excited to stimulate thought, inspire and educate participants as Dr. King’s 97th birthday nears.
Dolly Marshall, Historic Preservation Specialist for the City of Camden, will provide the historical context in which this letter was written. We have invited clergy and representatives of other organizations to join in reading a segment of King’s letter to fellow clergymen in which he explained why peaceful protest was not “extreme” in the face of repeated injustice, brutality and discrimination.
