Getting Graphic with History: The Life and Times of Jimmy Brown
Take a Zoom journey with author Amy Hollander to explore her recent graphic novel, Low Bridge, Everybody Down, in which she shares the real-life experiences of Jimmy Brown, a Black canal boat captain on the Delaware and Lehigh Canal in the early 1900s.
In the program offered by the Delaware River Greenway Partnership on Thursday, April 9, at 7:30 p.m., learn how Hollander crafted the story by combining Brown’s oral histories within the framework of local, regional, and national events. It will also show how she interwove her narrative with the art of Will Rosado to create an interplay of word and image — one that will engage the next generation of young readers with the diverse history of the Delaware and Lehigh Canal system.

In this capacity, she writes a blog, Bucks’ Bygone Byways, that highlights the lives of everyday people, places, and objects from the past.
