Lost Souls Public Memorial Project 9th Annual Homage to Our Ancestors
October 10 @ 1:00 PM - 3:30 PM
Free
The Lost Souls Public Memorial Project invites you to gather with us for the 9th Annual Homage to Our Ancestors, a free community event honoring the 160 African Americans who were illegally sold into permanent slavery from New Jersey in 1818, along with the generations of ancestors whose strength, stories, and legacies continue to shape our communities.
At the heart of the afternoon is the Lost Souls Memorial Public Recitation. Together, we will speak the names of the Lost Souls aloud, restoring recognition and humanity to people whose stories were nearly erased from our shared history.
The afternoon will also celebrate what endures. Through music, dance, storytelling, food, and interactive activities for all ages, we will reflect on the past while honoring the culture, creativity, resilience, and community carried forward across generations.
