Nicole A. Watson, director of “Bulrusher,” will be joined by dramaturg Faye M. Price and sound designer Kate Marvin. The collaborators, who will be in the midst of rehearsal, will discuss Davis’ dramatic and compelling “Bulrusher,” a finalist for the 2007 Pulitzer Prize for Drama, from the perspective of their artistic roles.
They will also share the process and joys and challenges of mounting this unique coming-of-age story, which is set in 1955 in the Anderson Valley of California’s rustic Mendocino County and features the historical coded language/patois of the residents of Booneville called Boontling. Watson will also talk about her research road trip to Mendocino County and discuss the choices she and her design team made to create the world of the play and its visual and aural landscapes. The conversation will be moderated by McCarter Artistic Engagement Manager Paula Alekson, and will include a Q&A with the audience.
Presented in partnership with McCarter Theatre Center.
