Memorial Day Remembrance Ceremony for Locust Hill Cemetery Civil War Veterans

Residents are invited to take part in two special events honoring the Civil War veterans of Locust Hill Cemetery, located at 73 Hart Avenue in Trenton. At least 10 African-American Civil War veterans are buried at the cemetery, where their service and sacrifice are now being recognized through a growing community restoration effort. Although their graves went neglected for many years as the city changed over time, residents, civic leaders, and local organizations have come together to help preserve and honor their legacy.

A cemetery cleanup will be held on Saturday, May 16, 2026, from 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m., followed by a Memorial Day Remembrance Ceremony on Saturday, May 23, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. Both events will take place at Locust Hill Cemetery.
