Oh Freedom! Exhibit

“Oh Freedom! Blacks on the Battlefront and in the Aftermath of the Revolutionary War in New Jersey”

Exhibit in the Historic House Sunday, July 6, 2025 through Sunday, August 24, 2025.  During regular museum hours or by special arrangement

Black New Jerseyans joined the ranks of both Loyalists and Patriots, depending on which side seemed to offer the best chance for freedom and were present in all key battles in New Jersey.  After the War, some left the new nation to gain their freedom, some continued their lives as freed men and some were freed as a reward for their service, while others lived out the rest of their lives enslaved.

“Oh Freedom! Blacks on the Battlefront and in the Aftermath of the Revolutionary War in New Jersey” is a six-panel exhibit developed by the Office of Historic Sites in the NJ Department of Environmental Protection. The exhibit will be on display in the 1719 historic house during regular museum hours through August 24th. Contact the Museum to arrange a visit during other times.
