Read Aloud “Growing Up True”

Honor the rich history of African American landowners and farmers in the Sourland Mountain region with Growing Up True — a new children’s book created in partnership with SSAAM.

The Montgomery Branch of the Somerset County Library System of New Jersey will host a family-friendly read-aloud, hands-on arts & crafts, and a special meet-and-greet with the book’s real-life heroine, Ms. Patricia “Patty” True Payne. Copies of Growing Up True will be available for purchase — a perfect and meaningful holiday gift.

Growing Up True, written by Ryan Jillian Kilpatrick, is a project of the Stoutsburg Sourland African American Museum made possible through support from the New Jersey Council for the Humanities and the Somerset County Cultural & Heritage Commission.
