Yale Will Drop John Calhoun’s Name From Building

After a swelling tide of protests, the president of Yale announced on Saturday that the university would change the name of a residential college commemorating John C. Calhoun, the 19th-century white supremacist statesman from South Carolina. The college will be renamed for Grace Murray Hopper, a trailblazing computer scientist and Navy rear admiral who received a master’s degree and a doctorate from Yale.

  1. Social change begins with acknowledging the entire truth about the people we have held high regards. We must accept that human being have flaws, needs continuous growth, and face endless opportunities to change socialized values by seeing all human life as valuable. Black Lives Matter!

  2. Absolutely! Decision makers are men imposing generationally ingrained values as traditional color-coded hierarchical standards for everyone. The embedded messages of racism immortalized.
